The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a vital public advisory to caution citizens about a recent upsurge in fraudulent vehicle auction schemes and cases of impersonation.
Con artists have been posing as senior police officers, targeting unsuspecting Nigerians and seeking financial contributions under the pretense of upcoming vehicle auctions and promises of contracts from the NPF.
Reports have highlighted instances where individuals falsely claiming to represent the police authority have attempted to dupe people into believing they could secure favorable deals, including contracts, through monetary contributions.
To address this concerning trend, the NPF emphasizes that it strictly follows standardized procedures for conducting legitimate vehicle auctions, contracts, and other transactions, all of which adhere to existing laws.
Of particular importance is the clarification that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) does not personally endorse or oversee property sales, especially involving vehicles, through public auctions.
All auctions are required to adhere to the due process laid out in the Nigeria Police Act of 2020.
As a result, the public is strongly advised to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to such unauthorized solicitations.
The NPF urges all residents to independently verify any information related to police activities, especially those involving vehicle auctions, by utilizing official communication channels provided by the force.
Among the verified platforms sanctioned by the NPF are the official email address pressforabuja@police.gov.ng and the social media handle @PoliceNG. By remaining vigilant and seeking information from trusted and verified sources, the public can effectively guard against potential scams and protect their financial well-being.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, mnipr, mipra, the Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, stresses the importance of staying informed and exercising caution.
The NPF is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and maintaining the integrity of its legitimate operations.
