Ekiti Suspends Traditional Chief For Insubordination

The Ekiti State government has taken the decision to suspend Chief Gabriel Bodunde, a traditional chief in Imesi Ekiti, situated in the Gbonyin Local Government Area of the state.

This action comes as a response to allegations of disrespect, high-handedness, and insubordination directed towards the town’s monarch, Oba Olatunji Olatunde.

The suspension has been attributed to Chief Bodunde’s alleged involvement in fomenting communal tensions within the town.

It is claimed that he facilitated these disturbances by engaging in the unjustified and arbitrary apprehension of individuals on fabricated and trivial charges, leading to an unnecessary escalation of tensions.

Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, the Deputy Governor of the state, made a formal announcement regarding the suspension on Thursday.

The decision followed the receipt of a petition from the Onimesi-in-Council, detailing Chief Bodunde’s conduct and actions.

Notably, Chief Bodunde did not participate in the hearing related to the petition, nor did he designate a representative to attend on his behalf.

In response, Oba Olatunji Olatunde expressed disappointment that multiple attempts to reconcile with Chief Bodunde were met with resistance.

The town’s monarch also highlighted Chief Bodunde’s refusal to comply with government invitations as a manifestation of arrogance.

This suspension marks a significant step taken by the Ekiti State government to address issues of discord and insubordination within the community.

It reflects a commitment to upholding traditional values, fostering peace, and maintaining harmonious relationships among the town’s residents.
