Police have stormed the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress as protesters gathered to kick against the replacement of National Working Committee, NWC, members from Cross River and Kogi states.
Positioned strategically at entrances along Blantyre Street, which houses the party’s headquarters, numerous police officers are on the scene.
Despite this show of force, protesters were seen remaining undeterred, as they maintained a visible presence and asserting their dissent.
Adding to the intensity, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello arrived at the secretariat in the early hours, further fueling the charged atmosphere.
The heart of the disagreement lies in the replacement of key NWC members.
Mary Alile Idele from Edo State has been appointed as National Women Leader (South South Zone), a decision attributed to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
However, this choice has sparked objections, particularly from supporters of Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo, who was endorsed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Beta Edu.
Additionally, contention surrounds the selection of Duro Meseko (Kogi State) as the new Deputy National Publicity Secretary (North Central Zone).
This move has ignited a clash between the recommendation by Governor Bello and the endorsement made by James Faleke.
The former Woman Leader, Edu, registered her protest by making an appearance at the national secretariat, leaving after around 45 minutes.
Demonstrating his commitment to resolving the issue swiftly, Governor Bello, who arrived in a G-Wagon, asserted that the matter must be rectified on the same day.
As the situation unfolds, the persistent protesters continue to defy the imposing police presence, leading to disruptions in both vehicular and human traffic in the area.
