The Governor of Ogun State,Dapo Abiodun, has called upon the Police Officer’s Wives Association (POWA) to empower themselves with medical knowledge aimed at tending to the health needs of their members and their spouses.

In an address delivered at the Governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, during a reception for the wife of the 22nd Inspector General of Police and POWA members,

Abiodun stressed the importance of foundational health awareness, encompassing blood pressure monitoring, general health assessments, and regular medical check-ups.

These measures, he emphasized, are vital for safeguarding the wellbeing of both members and their significant others.

Abiodun expressed concern for the health implications posed by the challenging nature of police work and advised POWA members to take preventive steps against potential health issues stemming from their occupational hazards.

He urged the association to collaborate with its members in providing support to their husbands, effectively shielding them from ailments such as diabetes and hypertension, often referred to as “silent killers.”

Assuring POWA of the state government’s backing, Governor Abiodun affirmed the commitment to integrate the Young Women in Agriculture Program into the state’s agenda.

The Governor, represented by Deputy Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, further highlighted that various vocational training initiatives introduced by his administration would be beneficial to the association’s members.

Elizabeth Egbetokun, President of POWA, acknowledged the pivotal role of women in agriculture and the potential of the sector to not only sustain livelihoods but also create wealth.

Stressing the importance of advancing food security, Egbetokun praised the Young Women in Agriculture Programme  for equipping its participants with essential tools, knowledge, and opportunities for improving their lives.

She underlined the program’s special relevance to widows within the association, providing them with a means to secure their futures.

Prince Abdulsalami Ladigbolu, President of the UNESCO REF, offered technical insight into the project, revealing plans to enhance the capacities of 50,000 women in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

He revealed the organization’s search for partnerships to secure land for the project and praised the collaboration between POWA and UNESCO REF for their joint intervention initiatives aiming to empower 5,000 youths in Ogun State through an ‘Intellectual and Economic Capacity Building Initiative.’

The gathering showcased the determination of the Police Officer’s Wives Association to prioritize both the health and economic empowerment of its members, reflecting a commitment to their wellbeing and their invaluable contribution to society.
