Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has initiated a significant step towards alleviating the difficulties caused by the removal of fuel subsidy through his administration’s Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) initiative.
As part of this endeavour, Makinde flagged off the distribution of food relief packages in Oyo.
With a commitment to easing the burden on the most vulnerable, the governor commenced the distribution at the Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III Mini-stadium in Oyo.
Notably, around 200,000 households are expected to benefit from this support, which is an integral aspect of the SAfER plan designed to address more than just immediate challenges.
Makinde expressed gratitude to the residents of Oyo for their steadfast support during the governorship election and highlighted the commendable margin of victory achieved.
The distribution of relief packages was not confined to one location.
The deputy governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, and other officials commenced distributions in Saki, Iseyin, Ogbomoso, Ibadan Less City, Ibadan Main City, and Ibarapa zone.
Governor Makinde emphasized that the relief packages were tailored for the poorest individuals, containing essential items like rice, beans, yam flour, and vegetable oil.
He stressed that the SAfER program encompasses a comprehensive strategy to tackle the root causes of economic challenges.
Makinde shared, “In Oyo State, we don’t want to treat the symptoms but attack the roots.
One thing about Sustainable Action is that it takes proper planning and strategy.” He also debunked rumors surrounding the utilization of the Federal Government’s support, affirming transparency in the state’s approach.
In addition to the food relief, SAfER encompasses various measures such as low-interest loans for businesses, youth entrepreneurship support, transportation subsidies, and healthcare provisions.
The governor assured that the N5 Billion facility received from the Federal Government would be utilized for the state’s benefit.
The event was attended by esteemed individuals, including members of the traditional council, political office holders, and constituents from Oyo Federal Constituency. Governor Makinde’s initiative marks a proactive step toward long-term economic recovery in Oyo State
