The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has taken a significant step in the ongoing fight against drug abuse by appointing Dr. Tola Adenekan, a prominent leader and trainer of the Scout Association of Nigeria, as an advocate.

The official decoration of Dr. Tola Adenekan took place in Abeokuta during a basic training course for scout leaders held at the Ogun State Scout Headquarters, Ita-Iyalode Abeokuta.

Mrs. Ibibia Odili, the Commandant of the NDLEA in Ogun State, had the honor of bestowing this recognition.

Mrs. Odili explained that the NDLEA has identified eminent personalities who serve as role models for the youth and enlisted them as advocates in the ongoing battle against drug abuse, a menace that has adverse effects on national socio-economic development.

During the training course, the NDLEA boss addressed the participants, emphasizing the consequences of drug abuse and strategies to reduce its prevalence.

She urged scout leaders to actively engage in sensitizing the youth about the dangers of drug abuse to help them achieve their life goals.

Mrs. Odili stressed that drug abuse and addiction not only harm the individuals involved but also wreak havoc on their families and turn them into societal menaces.

Dr. Tola Adenekan, in his welcome address as the course director, highlighted that the campaign against drug abuse aligns with the social impact strategy of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

He assured that the Scout Association of Nigeria remains committed to partnering with the NDLEA in their collaborative efforts to combat drug abuse.
