Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has taken decisive actions following the tragic murder of SP Bako Angbashim, the Ahoada Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
Governor Fubara announced a N100 million bounty on the head of Gift David Okpara Okpolowu, commonly known as “2-Baba,” the prime suspect behind the heinous crime.
In addition, he indefinitely suspended the traditional ruler of Ahoada, His Majesty, Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi Eze Igbu Akoh II, for alleged complicity in allowing criminal activities to thrive in his territory.
The governor’s stern measures come in the wake of the shocking incident where SP Bako and his team fell into an ambush while returning from an operation.
They were attacked by a group of criminals, and tragically, SP Bako was shot, captured, and subsequently killed by his captors.
Governor Fubara revealed that credible intelligence from security agencies pointed to Gift David Okpolowu, known as “2-Baba,” and his criminal gang as the culprits behind the resurgence of violent crimes, including kidnapping and terrorism in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.
In response to the deteriorating security situation, the governor declared “2-Baba” and all members of his criminal gang as wanted fugitives.
He also placed a significant bounty of N100 million on “2-Baba’s” head, encouraging anyone with valuable information leading to his arrest and prosecution to come forward.
Furthermore, His Majesty, Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi Eze Igbu Akoh II, faced suspension due to allegations of complicity in allowing David Gift and his gang to operate freely in his territory.
Governor Fubara affirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the security of all residents, vowing to relentlessly pursue “2-Baba” and his gang until they face justice.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to SP Bako’s family and the State’s Police Command, recognizing the officer’s bravery and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Rivers State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the DPO’s killers, pledging to spare no effort in delivering justice for SP Bako and maintaining law and order in the region.
