In a remarkable display of law enforcement effectiveness, the Nigeria Police Force has reported the apprehension of 288 armed robbery suspects, the rescue of 71 kidnapped victims, and the recovery of 89 stolen vehicles in the past five weeks.
Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, highlighted these significant achievements during a meeting with top police officials.
In addition to the arrests and rescues, the police disclosed that they also arrested 187 kidnapping suspects, 198 homicide suspects, 59 individuals for illegal firearm possession, 168 suspects involved in sexual offenses, 265 suspected cultists, and 1,891 other suspects for various crimes.
Moreover, a total of 127 firearms of various types, 612 assorted rounds of ammunition, and 89 stolen vehicles were confiscated by law enforcement agencies across the nation during this period.
Egbetokun emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police, government, and the public in achieving these results, and he vowed to continue modernizing policing strategies to combat crime effectively.
The Inspector-General also discussed the relative calm in internal security despite recent challenges, citing fewer instances of violent crimes compared to the past.
He urged Nigerians to report any suspicious firearms-related activities and encouraged vehicle registration on the newly automated Central Motor Registry platform for enhanced vehicle security.
