In a landmark ruling, the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, Lagos State, has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to Ifeanyi Ndieze for the heinous sexual assault of a four-year-old girl within the confines of a church event.
The presiding judge, Justice Abiola Soladoye, delivered this verdict on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, affirming the prosecution’s case of sexual assault against Ndieze, in accordance with Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Justice Soladoye recounted the harrowing incident, stating, “The child identified the defendant as the man who carried her during a church programme and sexually assaulted her by inserting his finger into her vagina.
This act caused the child to bleed uncontrollably, and upon medical examination, it was evident that she had been forcibly penetrated.”
Despite the defendant’s attempts to deny the offense, the judge found him guilty of sexually assaulting the innocent child and subsequently sentenced him to life imprisonment.
As part of the punishment, Ndieze’s name will be included in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.
In her closing remarks, Justice Soladoye urged parents to exercise vigilance in safeguarding their children, highlighting that “The mother of the child should not have left her with her elder brother, a six-year-old boy.”
The prosecution, led by Lagos State counsel Olufunke Adegoke, presented four witnesses and four exhibits in the case.
The incident occurred on October 29, 2020, at No. 18, Salau Street, Surulere, Lagos State, according to the Lagos State Government, which prosecuted the case.
