In a determined effort to maintain order and safety on the streets of Abuja, the Security Taskforce of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) conducted a targeted operation, resulting in the impoundment of 69 commercial vehicles across the territory.
The impounded vehicles were found in violation of various regulations, including improper parking, the operation of rickety vehicles, and the failure to display proper number plates.
The Director of the FCTA Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Mr. Abdulateef Bello, disclosed these developments during a press briefing conducted as part of the operation.
Bello reiterated the administration’s unyielding commitment to ridding the city of nuisances and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
It was made clear that the owners of the 69 impounded vehicles would be subject to legal proceedings at the FCT Mobile Court, situated within the premises of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services.
Furthermore, Mr. Bello revealed that three individuals from among the commercial vehicle operators were apprehended during the operation, and they are allegedly linked to the notorious “one-chance” syndicate. These suspects will be handed over to the Police for further prosecution.
The Director of the FCT Department of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, highlighted the role of indiscipline in fueling the rise of “one-chance” operations within the city.
He emphasized the administration’s commitment to the utilization of the 40 designated taxi ranks provided by the FCTA in the city center, contributing to a safer environment for all residents.
Simultaneously, the Secretary of the FCTA Command and Control Unit, Mr. Peter Olumuji, showcased items recovered from the “one-chance” operators.
He urged road users to take advantage of the established taxi ranks and emphasized the administration’s unwavering efforts to eradicate illicit operations from the city.
The FCTA stressed that this operation is part of its ongoing commitment to eliminate unauthorized commercial vehicle operators and enhance the safety of residents and their property in the vibrant capital city of Abuja
