In a significant legal development, Aisha Alkali Wakil, popularly known as “Mama Boko Haram,” has been arraigned alongside two others, Tahiru Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode, before Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri.

They are facing charges of conspiracy and cheating, involving a substantial sum of N150,000,000.

The trio, who held key positions at the Complete Care and Aid Foundation, a non-governmental organization, are accused of dishonestly inducing Alhaji Bulama Bakki, the CEO of Bakki Commodity Investment Company Limited, and Ngumati Investment Company Limited in August 2018.

The alleged scam revolved around the pretext of executing a contract for the supply of 5,000 bags of high-quality white beans, each weighing 50kg, at a rate of N23,000 per bag, along with seven mobile ultra-scanning machines powered by solar energy, totaling N150,000,000.

During the arraignment, all three defendants pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges as read to them.

The prosecution, represented by Counsels A.I Arogha and S.O Saka, subsequently requested a trial date.

Justice Fadawu granted the request and ordered the defendants to be remanded in a Correctional Centre, pending the trial proceedings.

This high-profile case has attracted widespread attention, given Aisha Alkali Wakil’s previous involvement in humanitarian efforts, particularly her controversial role as a negotiator for the release of kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls.

The legal proceedings are expected to shed light on the alleged fraudulent activities and provide a fair trial for all parties involved.
