A 45-year-old man, Kehinde Olanipekun, has fled his home after brutally attacking his wife, Damilola, with a machete and a hammer.

The wife had accused him of having an illicit affair with his 14-year-old step-daughter.

The incident occurred at Idashen community in Owo local government area of Ogun State.

According to sources, the step-daughter had confided in her mother, who was away on a trip, that her step-father had been sexually harassing her for a long time.

She said she was afraid to tell her mother earlier because she did not know how she would react.

The mother, who was shocked and enraged by the revelation, rushed back home and confronted her husband.

He admitted his wrongdoing and begged for forgiveness.

However, three days later, he turned violent and locked his wife in their bedroom after sending their other children on an errand.

He then proceeded to beat her up and slash her with a machete. He also used a hammer to hit her on the head.

The neighbours could not intervene because the door was locked.

They only heard the screams of the woman as she begged for mercy.

The woman managed to open the door and escape from the room.

She was covered in blood and had deep cuts all over her body.

She was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, but was referred to another hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

The husband, who realised what he had done, fled the scene and has not been seen since then.

The police spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Omisanya-Odunlami, confirmed the incident and said the police were on the trail of the suspect.

She urged anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station.
