Hailing from Imasayi in Yewa North local government area of Ogun State, Angel Ajayi, who holds degrees in Mass Communication and English Language Education from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akangba Akoko, Ondo State, is ready to test the limits of his linguistic prowess and broadcasting prowess.
Speaking exclusively with PLATFORM TIMES just hours before the epic event, Angel Ajayi explained that his motivation for this unparalleled feat was not to merely claim a spot in the Guinness World Records but to shatter the existing record for a marathon newscaster in the Yoruba language.
He boldly stated, “Tomorrow is November 1st, 2023.
I want to embark on a journey of News-athon, where I am going to read all the bulletins in Yoruba in the office within 30 days.”
The ambitious endeavor is set to kick off at the break of dawn, commencing at 6:00 AM and concluding at 10:00 PM daily, running through the afternoon, evening, and night.
Angel Ajayi is already locked in the newsroom, making preparations for this unprecedented challenge. With unwavering determination, he aims to complete the herculean task, breaking new ground in Yoruba newscasting.
Unveiling his unique approach, he declared, “I observed that nobody had ever done this, especially in Yoruba. I also like to do something different.”
The News-athon will include scheduled breaks for advertisements and sponsored programmes, which will necessitate brief pauses and resumptions. Over the course of 30 days, Angel Ajayi will invest a staggering 270 hours, excluding the time devoted to these breaks, out of a total of 720 hours.
This endeavour departs significantly from the usual newscaster shift rotation, which typically distributes the workload among multiple professionals.
Angel Ajayi will bear the responsibility of every news segment scheduled for 6:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 10:00 PM, effectively leading the entire news bulletin brigade.
In total, he will dedicate 325 hours of his time during this 30-day News-athon.
