In a proactive move to ensure a peaceful and secure electoral process during the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun  has convened a significant meeting with key stakeholders in Kogi State.

The Force Public Relations Officer,ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the  gathering, held in the state capital, Lokoja, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including political leaders, representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, electoral officials, traditional and religious leaders, youth leaders, and security agencies.

Adejobi said the  central aim of this meeting was to engage in constructive dialogue, share information, and strategize on measures to guarantee a free, fair, credible, and peaceful electoral process in the state.

The IGP  urged  political leaders to play a significant role in maintaining peace by promoting a culture of non-violence among their supporters and ensuring that the electoral process is conducted without any form of intimidation or coercion.

One key incident discussed during the meeting was a trending video from Anyigba, Kogi State, where it was alleged that armed men had attacked the residence of a key official from one of the political parties.

In response to this incident, the IGP has ordered the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to take over the case for thorough investigation.

The objective is to ascertain all parties involved and their respective levels of involvement, ultimately ensuring justice is served.

The Inspector General of Police reiterated the Force’s commitment to impartiality and neutrality throughout the electoral process.

He made it clear that decisive action will be taken against any person engaging in any form of misconduct or violence.

He also issued a stern warning to candidates and their followers, emphasizing that the police and other security agencies would not spare anyone caught fomenting troubles during the electioneering process.
