In a dramatic turn of events at the Twon Brass jetty in the Brass local government area of Bayelsa State, tensions flared as election materials were being offloaded by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in preparation for the upcoming governorship election.

The clash ensued as supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) engaged in a heated disagreement over the secure storage of the election materials for Saturday’s polls.

The situation took a distressing turn when the Brass Local Government Area PDP Chairman, Bara Daniel, reportedly sustained a head injury during the confrontation.

The incident unfolded as Mr. Daniel, allegedly, was engaging in intimidating behavior towards APC supporters over the handling of the election materials.

Former council chairman Victor Isaiah, who was present at the scene, denied any involvement in the altercation but claimed he intervened to restore order.

He alleged that Mr. Daniel’s derogatory statements had escalated the situation, and his intervention was necessary to calm the tensions that had erupted.

Fortunately, the situation was defused by the intervention of military personnel, who promptly arrived at the scene, effectively restoring normalcy and preventing the situation from further escalating.

In response to the incident, the Chairman of the Brass Local Government Area, Mr. Alabo Hanson Karika, strongly condemned the attack on the PDP Chairman, Bara Daniel.

Mr. Karika called on security agents to remain vigilant and ensure that such violence does not escalate further in the run-up to the governorship election.

As the election date draws closer, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the heightened tensions and political rivalries that often accompany electoral processes, underscoring the need for security and peaceful coexistence among political factions in Bayelsa State.
