Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has officially inaugurated the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) Alumni Lecture Hall, a 2000-seater facility.
The inauguration was part of the activities marking the 13th, 14th, and 15th convocation ceremonies held on the university campus.
Expressing his joy and satisfaction during the commissioning, Governor Abiodun commended the TASUED Alumni for their monumental contribution to their alma mater.
He praised the association’s virtues, dedication, and commitment as critical stakeholders, despite their relative youth as an association and the university itself.
Governor Abiodun urged Alumni associations of other universities to follow the example set by TASUED, emphasizing that such gestures can significantly alleviate infrastructural deficits in the educational system and complement government efforts.
He assured continued support from the Ogun State government in TASUED Alumni’s ongoing contributions to the university’s development.
As part of the celebration, Abiodun announced a generous gift of two million naira to each overall best graduating student from the various sessions.
Additionally, cash donations were extended to the best graduating students from each college of the university, accompanied by automatic employment for first-class graduates.
Mr. Abdullahi Abiodun Oyekanmi, the Alumni President, expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for unwavering support since the inception of his administration.
He acknowledged the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the university management, and the executive council of the Alumni Association for their dedication and cooperation leading to the completion of the lecture hall.
Oyekanmi highlighted the Alumni association’s significant achievements, dating back to its establishment in 2010, including the provision of hospital materials to the university clinic and the donation of a modern bakery to boost the university’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
He attributed the association’s success to prudent resource management and called on well-wishers to support their strides toward improved development in the university.
The commissioning event was graced by dignitaries such as the Secretary to the Government of Ogun State, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Chairman of the Council of TASUED, Prof. Rahman Bello, and the Vice Chancellor of TASUED, Prof. Oluwole Banjo, among others.
