In a surprising turn of events, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the eldest daughter of former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has made her first public appearance in over a decade.

The former Senator, who withdrew from active politics 12 years ago, was spotted at a reception organized by notable figures from Egbaland.

The event, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, honored the immediate past Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Isola.

Among the distinguished guests present were the former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Osile Oke-Ona of Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, and the Olowu of Owu, Oba Prof.  Saka Matemilola.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, who served as a Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District from 2007 to 2011 and previously as the Commissioner for Health in the state, had abruptly left the political scene following an unsuccessful Senate bid in 2011.

The break was marked by an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into alleged embezzlement of public funds and financial misappropriation.

Having relocated abroad, Obasanjo-Bello took up a lecturing position, distancing herself from the Nigerian political landscape.

However, her unexpected reappearance at the reception, adorned in a striking blue local Adire fabric, caught the attention and admiration of fellow attendees.

A noticeable poster welcoming the former Nigerian High Commissioner back home was displayed at the entrance of the Presidential library.

In an interview with journalists, Obasanjo-Bello expressed admiration for Ambassador Sarafa Isola, describing him as a “wonderful gift to the nation.”

She expressed hope for his continued success, active political participation, and contributions to the growth of both Ogun State and Nigeria.

Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s return to the public eye has sparked speculation about her future involvement in Nigerian politics, leaving many curious about her next steps after more than a decade of relative seclusion.
