Ogun State  government has unveiled  its plans to renovate a total of 472 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) spread throughout the state.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that many of the PHCs had been moribund while others were dilapidated .

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, disclosed this  during the official commissioning of the Royal Health Center in Ake.

Coker highlighted that the commitment to revamp the healthcare infrastructure was not a mere promise but a tangible goal, with 236 PHCs earmarked for renovation in the first term of the present administration.

The ambitious plan aims to extend this facelift to an additional 472 PHCs within the next four years.

She said  Governor Dapo Abiodun’s dedication to this initiative was underscored by the signing of a compact with the Minister of Health, solidifying the commitment to secure the necessary funding for the comprehensive renovation project.

She added that the  Royal Health Center in Ake, which was officially opened during the announcement, serves as a testament to the government’s dedication to improving healthcare accessibility.

Dr. Coker emphasized that the upgraded facility would now operate as a primary health center, ensuring that local residents have access to high-quality healthcare services.

Furthermore, she noted that the center would enable indigents to register and receive free healthcare services, aligning with the administration’s focus on inclusivity and equitable healthcare provision.

The strategic placement of the health center within the palace precinct was highlighted as a testament to the priority given to healthcare by the Alake of Egbaland.

Dr. Coker praised the monarch’s commitment to quality healthcare, recognizing the importance of such leadership in fostering community health.

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, commended the government’s proactive initiative to renovate PHCs during his remarks.

He urged residents to actively utilize the revitalized healthcare facilities for their health and well-being, emphasizing the mutual benefits of a healthier community.

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Board, acknowledged both the government and the Alake of Egbaland for transforming the project into a reality.

This collective effort is expected to significantly enhance healthcare accessibility, positively impacting the health and well-being of residents within and beyond the immediate area
