The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has declared that Nigeria could not be characterised as a poor nation,advising the wealthy ones in the country to take care of the less privileged.
She also challenged prevailing perceptions about the country’s economic status.
The statement followed a heartfelt Christmas celebration organized for the children of Nana Berry Orphanage in Abuja.
Emphasising her optimism for the coming year, Senator Tinubu prophesied that 2024 would be a glorious period for Nigerians.
During her address, she urged parents to instill hope in their children, emphasizing the importance of transforming the lives of the younger generation.
“As we step into the year 2024, our collective message should revolve around uplifting the lives of the young ones. It is imperative for all of us to cease discussing poverty in the presence of our children.
“Nigeria is not a poor nation, and it is our duty to ensure that the affluent take care of the less privileged, facilitating their journey to prosperity. That is all it takes,” Senator Tinubu proclaimed.
Expressing concern about the potential negative impact of misguided discussions on poverty, particularly on young minds, she stressed the importance of offering hope and showcasing positive aspects of life.
Senator Tinubu anticipated a year of glory ahead, encouraging those who believe in its promise to actively participate in and enjoy the forthcoming opportunities.
The First Lady further advised parents to incorporate moral teachings into their children’s upbringing, underscoring the significance of good values in shaping future leaders.
She announced a significant shift in Christmas celebrations at the State House, unveiling plans to adopt one orphanage home per year.
This initiative aims to provide underprivileged children with a sense of well-being and belonging.
“These children are all Nigerians with dreams like every one of us. Bringing them here is to instill the belief that nothing is impossible.
“ They, too, can become influential figures in society, just like those in positions of power today,” she emphasized.
In addition, Senator Tinubu called on parents to initiate religious education for their children, recognizing the quick learning capacity of young minds.
The Christmas celebration served as a poignant reminder of the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, with Senator Tinubu drawing parallels between the love of Christ and the need for collective sacrifices as a nation.
“This year’s Christmas celebration is also to remind them about the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ and how the love of Christ made him lay down his life for mankind.
As a nation, we must continue to make sacrifices for the well-being of others, not just for us but for generations that will follow,” Senator Tinubu concluded.
