The Ogun State government has begun the construction of the road leading to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, nine months after PLATFORMTIMES Newspaper reported how the road was abandoned for over 15 years in 2022.
The report had in it traders, students, and residents’ complaints on how they suffered loss, missed class, and got health damages due to the bad state of the road.
PLATFORM TIMES earlier reported that the road, leading to the school, formerly known as the Old Owode road, caused so much havoc on students, residents, and traders.
However, the current administration, under the leadership of Dapo Abiodun, has started the road construction and is yet to complete it.
Recall that the road was first under construction during the last administration, under the aegis of Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, however, he didn’t complete the construction, as he stopped at the Iyana Oloke axis of the road, leaving more than 4km undone.
Reacting to the development, the institution’s Student Union President, Hezekiah Babatunde, commended the state government, stressing that the governor is one who does what he says.
According to Babatunde, even though the road is still under construction, making it motorable has started bringing development to the institution, and community, as students now meet classes and tests.
He mentioned that students had earlier complained of how they missed classes and tests, adding that traders also lamented loss as customers don’t come to buy their products.
He also mentioned that motorists would now move freely on the road stressing that the road would attract more residents and motorists to the area, as well as call back those that left because of the road.
He said, “we have been agitating, complaining about this road, we have written letters to the secretary to the government office, but unfortunately, the letters didn’t get to the governor’s office, this is to say the governor is not aware of the letter but the road.
“However, the governor promised to repair the road when I was opportuned to meet him during his campaign at Adigbe, and here it is, the road is under construction, he does what he says.
“Looking at the benefit this would bring to the institution as a whole and student as an individual, we have started seeing changes.
“Before this, students miss their 8am to 10am classes due to the bad road, because the cab men won’t want to damage their vehicles on the road.
“But now, students meet up with classes and tests, also, the road has brought about another development, the electricity aspect. Ojere now have at least 12 hours light per day, the road is really bringing development.”
He therefore pleaded to the government to complete the road as it is still under construction, adding that the road should be done to the Alagada area of Obafemi Owode local government, and not to be stopped at the MAPOLY gate alone.
He said, “though we asked him to repair the road from Oloke to MAPOLY gate, however, we plead with the government to extend it to Alagada, so them at students would be conveyed easily.
“Moreover, there’s a prison there, the road would make it easy for police to operate very well.”
