Massive Response As 45,000 Apply for 2,000 Teaching Positions In Ogun

In a remarkable turnout, 45,000 individuals have applied for the Ogun Teach Intern program, aiming to fill 2,000 teaching vacancies in the state, according to Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, the Ogun State Commissioner for Science and Technology.

Arigbabu revealed the staggering number of applicants during the second term pre-resumption stakeholders’ meeting for the 2023/2024 academic session held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.

He assured that the government would meticulously select the best candidates, with successful applicants expected to receive their letters of engagement by the end of April.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, Arigbabu emphasized the continuation of the free education policy from primary to secondary school in the state.

He issued a stern warning, stating that any headteacher or principal found violating this policy would face sanctions.

Reflecting on the strides made since 2022, Arigbabu acknowledged the positive impact of the stakeholders’ meetings on the administration of schools in the state.

He recounted the state of emergency declared in the education sector, leading to significant rehabilitation and construction of classrooms.

The commissioner mentioned the recent employment of 1,000 teachers and the impending recruitment of another 2,000 through the OgunTeach Intern program.

Governor  Abiodun’s commitment to education was further highlighted, with promises of 10,000 scholarships for students across primary to tertiary institutions in the state.

Arigbabu announced the forthcoming Education Summit in February, aimed at assessing and enhancing the education sector’s performance.

In addressing security concerns, the commissioner disclosed the governor’s approval for increased security personnel in schools and the construction of perimeter fencing.

As schools reopen for the second term on January 8, Arigbabu urged school heads to demonstrate responsibility, update school portals, ensure a safe environment, and adhere to state government rules and regulations.
