In a benevolent act of academic support, the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) at the University Of Agriculture, Abeokuta Branch, awarded scholarships to six deserving students.

The announcement came following a Congress held on the school premises on Friday, underscoring the union’s commitment to Social Corporate Responsibilities and educational empowerment.

Chairman of the union, Oluwagbemiga Adeleye, addressing the media, shed light on the inspiration behind ASUU’s decision to embark on this scholarship initiative.

Adeleye  highlighted that such actions are deeply ingrained in the union’s ethos, extending from the National Level down to individual branches.

He  revealed that the directive to provide financial assistance to indigent students is a nationwide effort recognized by the National Executive Council.

The chairman expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort and the involvement of a principal officer, whose presence was instrumental in realizing the event.

As per the directives from the union at the National Level, one fortunate student from each branch is awarded Two Hundred Thousand Naira, while an additional Two Students are nominated by each branch for similar financial assistance.

However, during the selection process at the Federal University Of Agriculture Congress, a collective decision was made to extend the scholarship gesture beyond the initial plan.

This resulted in four more students being chosen, and though they did not receive Two Hundred Thousand Naira individually, they equally shared Two Hundred Thousand Naira, translating to Fifty Thousand Naira per student.

The total number of beneficiaries reached six, symbolizing the union’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities for deserving students.

Adeleye concluded the announcement with a word of advice for the scholarship recipients, expressing hope that they use the financial support judiciously to advance their studies and pursue their career aspirations.

The ASUU FUNAAB scholarship initiative not only showcases a commitment to academic excellence but also exemplifies the union’s dedication to uplifting students facing financial challenges.

The ripple effect of this generous act is expected to resonate positively within the university community, fostering a culture of support and educational empowerment.

Adeleke “Today’s actions align with the social corporate responsibilities of the union, from the National Level to the branch level.

“ We provide assistance to students, particularly those facing financial challenges at the national level.

“This directive comes from the National Executive Council of the Union, emphasising the importance of presenting scholarship awards to indigent students. Fortunately, we have a principal officer among us who played a key role in making this event a reality.

In total, six scholarships were awarded. As per the union’s directive at the National Level, one student will receive Two Hundred Thousand Naira, and each branch will nominate two students for the same award.

“During the selection process, the Federal University of Agriculture’s Congress decided to extend the gesture to additional students, and the branch willingly supported this decision.

“While four other students were chosen, they did not receive Two Hundred Thousand Naira individually. Instead, they shared a total of Two Hundred Thousand Naira equally, receiving Fifty Thousand Naira each.

“I sincerely hope that the recipients use these scholarships wisely to further their studies and pursue their career goals at the university.”
