In a heartfelt plea, Mrs. Ololade Busayo is seeking financial assistance totaling N20 million for her 15-year-old son, Umar Ololade, who is diagnosed with a heart condition that requires urgent medical attention.
The mother disclosed that Umar has been diagnosed with electrophysiology, a condition requiring surgery at a specialist hospital in South Africa, with a hefty cost of N20 million.
The journey into this medical crisis began when Umar started complaining of chest pain, initially considered a minor issue.
Unfortunately, the condition worsened over time, leading to the teenager’s hospitalization.
Mrs. Ololade explained that Umar was initially treated at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro Hospital, Abeokuta, where he was prescribed medications that provided temporary relief.
However, the relief was short-lived, and Umar experienced a recurrence of the chest pain while in school.
The school authorities advised that Umar should not return until fully recovered.
She shared, “The heart disease started two years ago; Umar has been complaining of a heart problem since he was in school, always complaining of chest pain.
I thought it was a minor issue, maybe childishness. As the complaint continued, we took him to Aro Hospital, where he was given some drugs that provided relief.”
The mother recounted that, despite these efforts, Umar’s condition did not significantly improve.
FMC (Federal Medical Centre) Doctors suggested that Umar needed to seek medical expertise beyond Nigeria, directing them to Mogorosi G Rapulana in South Africa.
The estimated cost for Umar’s treatment abroad is N20 million.
Mrs. Ololade shared the family’s struggle to gather funds, managing to secure N4.6 million with the help of well-meaning Nigerians.
Unfortunately, their visa expired before the full amount was raised, prompting this urgent appeal for financial assistance.
Expressing her distress, Mrs. Ololade said, “FMC hospital keeps reminding us that we need to make a quick move because the doctors who can treat his sickness are overseas.”
The doctors specializing in electrophysiology studies can assess Umar’s condition and recommend either surgery or lifelong medication.
