In a dramatic turn of events, a five-man armed robbery gang, fleeing the scene of a heist along the Ada George/Chinda axis, met a fatal end as their vehicle collided with a truck at Ada George Road Nkpolu Oroworukwo in the Mile 3 axis of Diobu in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
According to an eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, a private security guard attached to a warehouse selling sealed engine oil raised the alarm, alerting both passersby and the police to the unfolding situation.
The eyewitness recounted, “The armed robbers were speeding off, and upon sighting a police patrol van chasing them, they attempted to make a detour through Rumukokwu from Ada George Road.
Unfortunately, they rammed into a stationary truck, leading to the death of one of them.”
A viral video capturing the aftermath revealed a lifeless member of the gang behind the wheel, while two others lay critically injured on the ground, subsequently apprehended by the police.
The incident attracted a crowd of residents and passersby who gathered at the scene, some describing the outcome as “judgment day.”
When contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson of the state police command, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. They were fleeing from a crime scene with their vehicle and rammed into a truck. They were taken to the hospital following their injuries.
“One of them was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
The two other suspects are in critical condition and receiving treatment. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the other gang members that escaped to make them face justice.”
