Obiano Granted Bail, Next Court Hearing Set for March 4

In a significant legal development, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Willie Obiano, the immediate past governor of Anambra State.

The court’s decision follows a hearing during which Justice Ekwo imposed certain restrictions on Obiano’s movements, confining him to the court’s jurisdiction.

As part of the bail conditions, Justice Ekwo instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to deposit the travel documents belonging to the former governor with the court registrar.

This move aims to ensure that Obiano remains within the specified boundaries during the legal proceedings.

To further enforce these measures, Justice Ekwo directed the court registrar to promptly notify the Nigerian Immigration Service about Obiano’s restricted travel status.

This administrative step seeks to prevent any potential departure from the court’s jurisdiction.

The court proceedings were not without opposition, as the prosecution counsel, Slyvanus Tahir, SAN, urged the court to remand the former governor.

Tahir presented arguments in favor of Obiano’s detention, but Justice Ekwo, after careful consideration, decided to grant bail.

In light of these developments, the case has been adjourned until March 4, 5, 6, and 7 for the continuation of the trial.

This adjournment allows for the legal process to unfold, providing both the prosecution and defense with the necessary time for preparation and presentation of their respective cases.

Willie Obiano, who served as governor of Anambra State, faces legal scrutiny, and the upcoming trial dates mark a crucial period in determining the course of justice in this high-profile case.

As the legal proceedings progress, the public remains attentive to the unfolding events and potential ramifications for the former governor
