In the aftermath of the dramatic impeachment of Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, by 18 lawmakers, a potential political solution is in the works to untangle the ongoing deadlock.

Elders, particularly from the embattled speaker’s constituency, have reportedly penned a letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun, urging his intervention.

PLATFORM TIMES reliably gathered that the letter, conveyed through the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, seeks the governor’s assistance in resolving the impasse, though confirmation of receipt or response from Governor Abiodun remains unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, a crucial meeting between Oluomo and an eight-member probe panel hit an impasse, with disagreements on various issues prompting an abrupt end to the session.

The Speaker raised constitutional concerns regarding the panel’s composition and attempted to address the allegations against him during the brief meeting.

Oluomo, representing Ifo I constituency, faced impeachment last week amidst accusations of gross misconduct, high-handedness, and incitement against fellow lawmakers.

The assembly elected Oludaisi Elemide as the new speaker in response to the grievances.

The aggrieved lawmakers reconvened on Monday, establishing an eight-man committee to investigate the 11 allegations against Oluomo.

The panel, chaired by Musefiu Lamidi, included members such as Oluseun Adesanya, Babatunde Tella, Damilola Soneye, Lukman Adeleye, Fola Salami, and Olusegun Odunuga.

Despite being invited to appear before the committee, Oluomo’s meeting ended in a deadlock, citing the ineligibility of all eight members due to their association with the impeachment notice against him.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Oluomo, expressing dissatisfaction, sought permission to leave the session, emphasizing that answering questions would be prejudicial.

Looking ahead, Oluomo stated that the matter is now in court, with the next proceedings scheduled for February .

The unfolding events underscore the complex interplay of politics and legal processes in the quest for resolution within Ogun State’s political landscape.
