Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has lauded the removal process of the former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, describing it as exemplary.

The governor’s commendation extends to the seamless election of the new Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, emphasizing the lawmakers’ democratic right to choose their leader.

Twenty-two lawmakers on Tuesday impeached Oluomo after he was pronounced guilty by the probe panel set up to look into the allegations leveled against him .

Oluomo had last week Tuesday impeached before his second removal on Tuesday during the plenary following the vote of no confidence passed on him .

Shortly after the new speaker was sworn in , 19 of the lawmakers paid a courtesy visit to the  governor who was represented by his deputy ,Noimot. Salako-Oyedele

In a statement from the governor’s media office, Abiodun congratulated Elemide and other lawmakers for ensuring a smooth and rancor-free transition.

The governor during a courtesy call by 19 House members who accompanied the new Speaker to the governor’s office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, noted the non-interference of the executive in the legislative process, highlighting the lawmakers’ freedom in decision-making.

He said “You have gone through the process in a way that is exemplary.

“This is not the first time in this country that members of a particular legislature have decided to change their leader,” said Abiodun.

He reiterated the commitment of the executive to adhere strictly to the concept of Separation of Powers and the rule of law in its relationship with the House of Assembly.

The governor pledged continuous support and close collaboration with the legislature to maintain the harmonious relationship cultivated over the last four and a half years.

Addressing the legislators, Speaker Rt. Hon. Elemide affirmed the House’s commitment to complementing the executive and avoiding unnecessary conflicts that may impede the state’s progress.

“We are not going to fight, and neither are we going to compromise the executive. In the legislature, there is room for lobbying.

“We will lobby where we need to lobby, assert where we need to assert, and let the whole people of the State know that we are there for them,” declared Speaker Elemide.

He emphasized the equal standing of all legislators and vowed to represent their collective voice.

“I am just the first among equals, and we were voted in from our various constituencies. I will be there to speak for them, and I will speak whatever they put in my mouth,” concluded Elemide.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that while the matter has been taken to court and the case fixed for February 8, for mention, the Assembly went ahead to remove Oluomo as the speaker .
