Christian Man In Hiding After Alleged Blasphemy Triggers Unrest in Katsina

Mani Abubakar, a Christian residing in Katsina State, northwest Nigeria, has sought refuge as tensions escalate over a Facebook post deemed blasphemous.

The Babaruga area of the state witnessed the aftermath as an angry mob destroyed Abubakar’s house and car.

Abubakar, whose current whereabouts are unknown, ignited controversy with a Hausa-language Facebook post questioning Islam and describing Prophet Mohammed as false.

In his post, he asserted, “The moment I discovered Islam was false, I held onto Jesus with the whole of my heart,” challenging the authenticity of the Quran and accusing individuals of plagiarizing the Bible.

The Christian Association of Nigeria is actively collaborating with authorities and plans to meet with the Emir of Katsina to ensure Abubakar’s safety upon his reappearance.

Venerable Muyiwa Segun, Vice Chairman of CAN in Katsina, condemned violence and disrespect towards other religions, emphasizing the importance of mutual religious respect.

“Everyone should respect the other’s religion,” Segun stated, emphasizing that Christians should not engage in disparaging other faiths.

CAN is working closely with security agents and religious leaders to foster peace and safety in the community amidst the unfolding situation.
