In a shocking incident, unidentified gunmen have mercilessly beheaded Inspector Osang, a police officer, in Akwa Ibom State.
The gruesome incident unfolded on Wednesday night as the assailants infiltrated his residence on a pathway connecting Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, a suburb of Uyo City.
The invasion, which occurred at 8:30p.m., witnessed the assailants entering Osang’s compound, firing shots randomly to instill fear among residents and bystanders, according to sources from the community.
Regrettably, this marks the third reported killing in the area in January alone.
Prior incidents include the beheading of a woman near the banking layout in Uyo and the slaying of another lady, whose dismembered body was callously abandoned in a Ghana-Must-Go bag by the roadside in the Nwaniba district.
Police Public Relations Officer Odiko Mac-Don, when approached, confirmed the tragic event, terming it as unfortunate.
He conveyed that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, has promptly ordered a discreet investigation into Inspector Osang’s death, emphasizing the commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“We have received that information, and it is an unfortunate situation. Already, the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation, and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements,” Mac-Don asserted.
Despite the grim incident, he reassured the public that the police force remains undeterred, vowing to hold criminally minded individuals accountable for their actions.
