A wave of shock and grief has swept through Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, following the tragic demise of a 400-level female student identified as Adaze Doris Jaja.

The 31-year-old student reportedly took her own life in a hotel room, leaving behind a community grappling with sorrow and unanswered questions.

According to the Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, the incident unfolded on January 27, when the Director of Be-Happy Hotel in Ago Iwoye, Hon. Oduniyi Adelaja, reported to the Divisional Police Officer that a distressing discovery had been made in one of the hotel rooms.

A staff member, Adebayo Israel, had found Adaeze Doris Jaja lying unconscious and foaming at the mouth on a freezer.

Beside her was an empty bottle of Sniper 1000EC/DDVP, a potent insecticide often associated with cases of suicide.

The local authorities were promptly alerted, and Adaze was rushed to Best Care Hospital before being transferred to Love and Care Hospital in Ago Iwoye.

Despite the efforts to save her life, she was later confirmed dead at the hospital.

Omolola Odutola confirmed that a thorough investigation had been launched, and the scene of the tragedy was examined.

The empty Sniper bottle, believed to be a crucial piece of evidence, was recovered at the site.

To unravel the circumstances leading to Adaze’s tragic end, her body has been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University mortuary for an autopsy.

The news of Adaze Doris Jaja’s suicide has sent shockwaves through the university community, prompting discussions about mental health support services and the overall well-being of students.

As the investigation unfolds, friends, family, and the university community are left grappling with the loss of a promising young life, emphasizing the urgent need for mental health awareness and support mechanisms within academic institutions.
