The political landscape in Sokoto State witnessed a significant development on Saturday as the immediate past Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, appeared before the state Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

The commission, headed by Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga, is tasked with investigating actions taken by Tambuwal’s administration during his tenure.

Governor Ahmad Sokoto, who assumed office after Tambuwal, initiated the probe to scrutinise the decisions and policies implemented by the former governor.

Tambuwal, flanked by his legal team and key members of his administration, presented himself at the commission for a session that stirred anticipation across the state.

However, the former governor’s testimony was deferred as the panel requested him to reappear on a later date, the details of which are expected to be communicated. Despite this delay, Tambuwal expressed his willingness to cooperate with the inquiry.

Taking to his social media handle, Senator Tambuwal shared insights into the proceedings, stating, “Earlier today, I appeared before the Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga-led Sokoto State Judicial Commission of Inquiry instituted by my successor, H.E, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.”

Accompanied by key figures from his administration, including ex-Secretary to the State Government Muhammad Mainasara Ahmad, ex-Chief of Staff Muktar Magori, and ex-Attorney General Dr. Sulaiman Usman, SAN, among others, Tambuwal emphasised the integrity of their public service track record.

“Our track record of integrity in public service speaks for us, always,” asserted Tambuwal, adding, “In leading the younger generation, we must instil in them utmost respect for the rule of law and constituted authorities.”

Acknowledging the democratic process, Tambuwal remarked, “As citizens, we should realise that no one, no matter how highly placed, should be above the laws of the land, most specifically, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He concluded by expressing optimism and extending well wishes to the commission, saying, “This, amongst other things, brings out the beauty in democracy. I wish the commission the very best in its sitting.”

The unfolding events have captured the attention of Sokoto residents and political observers alike, as the inquiry delves into the intricacies of Tambuwal’s governance and raises questions about the accountability of public officials.
