President Bola Tinubu and Prof Senait Fisseha, SVP of the Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation, engaged in a productive meeting on the sidelines of the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, highlighting the imperative need for cross-border collaboration.

Addressing the Ministerial Executive Leadership Programme during the 37th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of forging partnerships beyond borders and sectors to confront the intricate health challenges in Africa.

Africa’s collaboration with the global community to combat health challenges is not just a strategic choice, but a moral obligation, according to Tinubu, who serves as the AU Champion for Human Resources for Health and Community Health Delivery Partnership.

President Tinubu stressed the complexity of the continent’s health issues, encompassing infectious diseases, noncommunicable diseases, and challenges in maternal and child health.

He called for a multi-faceted approach involving robust investments in healthcare infrastructure, training, skilled manpower retention, and preventive healthcare measures.

Highlighting the role of a whole-of-government approach, Tinubu connected health outcomes with socio-economic factors, emphasizing the need for investments in education and healthcare professionals.

He underscored community health delivery as pivotal, emphasizing partnerships with local stakeholders and empowering individuals to take control of their health.

In addressing Nigeria’s efforts, Tinubu outlined the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), aimed at improving healthcare accessibility, affordability, and quality.

The initiative, unveiled in December, focuses on strengthening leadership and governance in the health sector, optimizing service delivery, and unlocking economic potential within Nigeria’s healthcare value chain.

Tinubu urged African leaders to commit to tangible actions and policies for positive change in healthcare delivery, aligning with Agenda 2063.

He declared, “Together, we can build a prosperous, healthier, more equitable future for all Africans.”
