In a shocking turn of events, the halls of Havarde College of Science, Business, and Management Studies in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have become shrouded in grief as a 300-level nursing student, identified as Ajoke, reportedly took her own life on a somber Monday evening.
The tragic incident has not only left the college community in mourning but has also prompted the government to take swift action by shutting down the school.

Ajoke’s lifeless body, discovered in her off-campus hostel room, raised concerns as she was believed to be pregnant.
The circumstances surrounding her untimely death point to the consumption of a poisonous substance, suspected to be sniper.
Investigations reveal that the deceased’s mental and emotional state had significantly deteriorated due to the college’s failure to meet the accreditation requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
Despite dedicating three years to studying Basic Medical Science, Ajoke learned that the institution could not secure accreditation for the nursing program.
An anonymous colleague of the late student disclosed the depth of Ajoke’s despair, stating, “For more than four months now, she had been depressed because of the fact that the course she was studying was not accredited.
She used to think and complain because she claimed her parents used all the money they have to send her to the school.”
The situation took a tragic turn when Ajoke discovered she was pregnant, exacerbating her distress.
The realization that she might not even receive a certificate for the years spent pursuing her education compounded her anguish.
Dr. Oluwatosin Adebayo, President of the Harvarde Group, expressed profound sadness over the incident, extending condolences to the grieving family.
“Taking her own life is not something that should happen, even if she got pregnant,” he remarked.
Adebayo emphasized the need for support systems and urged parents to stay engaged in their children’s educational journeys.
As the community grapples with this heartbreaking loss, questions linger about the state of mental health support within educational institutions and the broader societal responsibility to ensure the well-being of students.
