The Coalition of Ogun State Youth Forums (COSYF) has urged both the federal and state governments to address the current economic challenges, warning of potential widespread protests within a month if no action is taken.
Represented by COSYF Spokesperson Comrade Oluwafemi Owoeye, the coalition expressed dissatisfaction with the prevailing economic difficulties and presented innovative solutions to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.
Owoeye who spoke at a press conference held at the NUJ Secretariat Abeokuta, Ogun State on Wednesday, stressed the importance of constructive dialogue and proactive measures over disruptive protests in the face of global economic turmoil.
Acknowledging the economic challenges, Owoeye called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.
He also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for prioritizing the development of Ogun State but emphasized the need for youth inclusivity in his policies.
Highlighting the hardships endured by Nigerians, including soaring inflation rates, widespread unemployment, and escalating insecurity, COSYF proposed a comprehensive set of solutions.
These included reopening international borders to stimulate economic growth, incorporating non-state actors into palliative committees, and providing one year of free health insurance for all residents.
The coalition advocated for the establishment of a well-managed food bank system, subsidization of transportation costs, grants for small and medium-scale enterprises, and the development of robust job creation programs.
To bridge the communication gap between the government and the youth, COSYF requested a quarterly Youth Parley with Governor Dapo Abiodun to enhance awareness of opportunities and solicit direct feedback from the people.
COSYF set a one-month deadline for the government to initiate and implement these proposals, reflecting their commitment to the well-being and prosperity of citizens.
In a message to President Tinubu, they called attention to the hardships faced by Nigerians under his watch, urging urgent and crucial decisions to alleviate their pains.
Addressing Governor Abiodun, the youth commended his leadership but pointed out a significant gap in capturing the youth constituency in state initiatives.
They called for the creation of a youthful committee to address this lacuna, ensuring a more inclusive approach in future interventions and measures.
