In an event marked by unity and respect across religious and political lines, former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo led a high-profile delegation, including the ex-Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Alh. Chief Sarafa Tunji Isola, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi to celebrate the 90th birthday of Egbaland’s Chief Imam, Sheikh Alh. Muhammed Sa’ad Bamgbola.

The celebratory visit, which took place in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, underscored the Chief Imam’s remarkable life as a beacon of religious tolerance and harmony in Nigeria.

Obasanjo, in a heartfelt tribute, lauded Sheikh Bamgbola for his inspirational leadership and commitment to fostering unity among diverse religious and ethnic groups.

He emphasized the Imam’s embodiment of Islamic tenets through his piety, responsible conduct, and peaceful propagation of faith.

The tribute highlighted the Imam’s significant contributions to community service, state, and nation, benefiting from his wisdom and dedication.

The visit, which also included dignitaries like the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, began at the Imam’s residence in Sodeke Abeokuta, before moving to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Chapel of Christ the Glorious King for a Thanksgiving Service in his coming birthday .

Despite a packed schedule, Obasanjo made a point of visiting the Imam, a gesture that fulfilled a decades-old dream for the religious leader.

In a touching response, the Chief Imam recounted a 50-year-old dream where he envisioned welcoming Obasanjo into his home, a dream that was joyously realized on this significant occasion.

His words reflected a deep-seated respect and admiration for Obasanjo, acknowledging his pivotal role in the global community.

The celebration also featured the cutting of the birthday cake by Obasanjo and Obi symbolizing unity and shared joy.

A biography titled “Resilience and Challenges: My Strength” was presented to Obasanjo, offering insights into the Imam’s life and the challenges he overcame.

Isola, alongside other dignitaries, praised the Imam’s steadfastness and contributions to Islam in Egbaland, extending prayers for his continued well-being and service to the community.

The event not only celebrated a milestone in the life of a revered religious leader but also showcased the enduring spirit of interfaith respect and cooperation in Nigeria, echoing across the nation as an example of unity in diversity.
