Ogun State Lawyer, Bakare Olajesu was arraigned on Wednesday, before Magistrate Court One in Isabo Abeokuta by the Ogun State Police Command.

The high-profile case has generated considerable attention, notably for the notable presence of over ten lawyers flooding the court to support the defendant.

Barrister John Olugbenga Banishile shed light on the core of the matter, highlighting allegations of assault and disruptive conduct against Alhaji Fatai Aro, the complainant in this legal tussle.

During the proceedings, the defendant’s legal team sought his release on bail, a procedural move permitted by law. However, Banishile’s statement underscored a nuanced concern.

While acknowledging the legality of seeking bail, he urged the court to consider whether Bakare Olajesu, as a lawyer, should represent himself or designate another representative.

This plea aimed to avert any perception of undue advantage stemming from the defendant’s legal background.

Banishile emphasized, “The defendant standing trial does not imply guilt. Being a lawyer charged to court does not warrant special treatment.”

The court concurred with this sentiment, reinforcing the principle of impartiality in the legal process.

The complainant, Alhaji Dr. Fatai Aro, asserted that Bakare Olajesu had allegedly assaulted him at his residence, adding a personal dimension to the case.

In a significant legal decision, the court ordered the defendant to pay a bail amount of N50,000 to the complainant.

The case was adjourned to April 18, 2024, setting the stage for a prolonged legal battle.
