Two siblings on Monday, met a tragic end at Irewon junction along the Imowo-Ibadan garage road in Ijebu Ode,Ogun state.

The spokesperson for the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the  news to the press in Abeokuta.

The accident occurred at 7:50 am and involved a Honda Accord car with the registration number KJA 394 EE.

According to Akinbiyi, the vehicle was speeding recklessly, lost control, and collided with two pedestrians, a brother, and a sister.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver failed to manage the excessive speed while approaching a bend, resulting in the tragic collision with the siblings walking by the roadside.

The victims, a male and a female, were pronounced dead at the Ijebu Ode General Hospital Mortuary.

Following the incident, the Honda Accord car was towed to the police station in Obalende, Ijebu Ode, for further investigation.

The driver was promptly apprehended by the police from Obalende Division, Ijebu Ode.

In the aftermath, angered youths initially blocked the entire Imowo-Ibadan garage road but were later dispersed by a joint intervention of the police and Nigerian Army.

A potential lynching of the driver was averted due to the timely intervention of TRACE, the Army, and the Police.

Akinbiyi extended condolences to the grieving family, emphasizing the need for drivers to avoid excessive speed.

He also urged pedestrians to face oncoming traffic instead of walking with their backs to it, emphasizing the importance of vigilance to prevent similar tragedies.
