An Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has sentenced Nathaniel Danjuma to two years imprisonment for theft.
M Danjuma, along with his accomplice Japhet Habila, faced a three-count charge of criminal trespass, theft, and receiving stolen property.
According to Police Prosecutor, Insp. Esther Bishen, the case was brought to light when Caleb Bakam of Ungwan Rimi reported the incident to the station on March 5.
Bakam discovered on the morning of March 1 that the bonnet of his car was open, and several items had been stolen from it.
Among the stolen items were a car battery, wristwatch, head warmer, and a 32 GB memory card, valued at N60,500.
Bishen revealed that the second defendant, Habila, was apprehended while wearing the stolen head warmer, which he claimed was given to him by Danjuma.
Upon arrest, Danjuma confessed to stealing the aforementioned items.
During the trial, both defendants pleaded guilty and appealed to the court for leniency.
In his verdict, Judge George Gwani sentenced Danjuma to six months imprisonment or a fine of N15,000 for criminal trespass, and two years imprisonment or a fine of N30,000 for theft.
Gwani specified that the sentences would run concurrently.
Additionally, Habila was sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of N15,000 for receiving stolen property.
The judgment serves as a stern warning against criminal activities and emphasizes the consequences of engaging in theft and related offenses
