At the 2024 Commonwealth Day Celebration organized by the Ogun State Chapter of the Commonwealth Youth Organization of Nigeria, Nigerian youths were encouraged to cultivate resilience, innovation, and creativity as they navigate life’s challenges.
The event, held at the main auditorium of the NUJ Complex in Abeokuta, featured insightful speeches and engaging discussions aimed at empowering young people to overcome obstacles and strive for excellence.
Assembly-man Olusegun Kaka, Chairman of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Culture and Tourism, delivered a stirring address, emphasizing the importance of resilience in achieving uncommon results.
Drawing from his personal experience of electoral defeats, Kaka highlighted the value of hard work, commitment, and perseverance in the pursuit of success.
In his welcome address, Mr. Emmanuel Enitan Ojo, the Ogun State Coordinator of the Commonwealth Youth Organization of Nigeria, commended Nigerian youths for their resilience in the face of formidable challenges, including the global pandemic, climate change, and economic reforms.
He praised their courage and determination in confronting these issues head-on.
Alhaja (Surv.) Haleemat Yusuf, the Deputy Surveyor General of Ogun State and Chairman of the occasion, lauded the organization for its efforts in promoting resilience and sustainable living among young people.
She emphasized the need for youths to align with Commonwealth ideals and harness their potential for positive change.
The theme of the celebration, “One Resilient Common Future,” resonated throughout the event. Panelists, including Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, Dr. Moji Akinsanya, and Amb. Adebajo, urged youths to stand up, be empowered, and take their rightful place in society.
They encouraged young people to focus on self-development and to refrain from complaining, emphasizing the importance of inner strength in overcoming adversity.
A highlight of the Commonwealth Day commemoration was the inauguration of two distinguished patrons, Hon. Segun Kaka and Dublin-based Princess Yinka Adedokun. Apostle Dr. Tola Adenekan, the Founding Coordinator of the Organization, conducted the ceremony, urging the patrons to serve as advisors, role models, and resource providers for the organization.
In addition to thought-provoking discussions, the event featured a quiz competition for students, the unveiling of an empowerment program for youths, and the induction of new members into various local chapters of the organization.
The Commonwealth Youth Organization of Nigeria, through its initiatives, continues to empower young Nigerians to build a resilient and prosperous future.
