    FUNAAB Welcomes German Consul General To Foster Agricultural Innovation

    The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB)  has hosted the German Consul General to Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr. Weert Borner, along with his wife, Dr. Imke Borner.

    PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the visit was  to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at enhancing agricultural innovation.

    During the visit, Borner delivered an insightful lecture titled “Nigeria-German Cooperation: Improving Food Security Through Sustainable Agriculture,” emphasizing the urgent need for global action on food security, education, housing, and climate change.

    Advocating  sustainable solutions, Mr. Borner highlighted the importance of enhancing fertilizer production with renewable energy sources to boost agricultural output. 

    He also referenced ongoing high-level discussions between the German government and Nigerian authorities to foster agricultural collaborations and ensure economic stability.

    Addressing the audience, Mr. Borner praised the potential of cassava and discussed possible partnerships to improve its productivity.

     Additionally, he announced upcoming trade fairs focused on agro-food, further showcasing the commitment to partnership.

    While commending FUNAAB’s inviting atmosphere, Mr. Borner noted areas for improvement, including infrastructure.

     However, he lauded the university for its anthem and expressed hope for fruitful collaboration.

    In his welcome address, FUNAAB’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, reiterated the university’s commitment to collaboration through faculty exchanges and integrating modern agricultural technologies into the curriculum.

    The Acting Registrar, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Morufat Dawodu, thanked Mr. Borner for his lecture and expressed optimism for future cooperation.

    The visit included presentations, cultural showcases, and stakeholder meetings, highlighting the breadth of potential collaboration.

    The visit of the German Consul General signifies a significant moment for FUNAAB, offering a platform for impactful partnerships in addressing global agricultural challenges and fostering sustainable development.
