The De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, comprising Lagos indigenes and elders, has criticized the current state of governance in Lagos State, asserting that only an indigenous leader can bring about the desired improvements.
During a meeting hosted by Prof Adele Jinadu, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, President Prince Adelani Adeniji-Adele emphasized the importance of native leadership in addressing the shortcomings of governance in Lagos.
Adeniji-Adele commended Prof. Jinadu’s dedication to the welfare of indigenous Lagosians and urged him to utilize his extensive experience to advance the group’s objectives.
Mr. Gbadebo Dallas, another Trustee, reminisced about a bygone era characterized by quality education, a conducive environment, and exemplary leadership, lamenting the current state of affairs.
The meeting marked the Foundation’s first gathering following several media engagements aimed at promoting its mission of advocating for a better Lagos for indigenous residents.
Retired Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju, Alternate Chairman of the Board of Trustees, emphasized the necessity of Prof. Jinadu’s leadership in the ongoing struggle to safeguard the interests of Lagos indigenes.
In response, Prof. Jinadu underscored the collective responsibility to address the marginalization and persecution faced by Lagos indigenes, regardless of age.
He reiterated the urgency of advocating for indigenous rights in the face of adversity.
However, Hon. Seye Oladejo, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioned against divisive narratives, asserting that Lagos has always been governed by its own people.
He emphasized the party’s commitment to promoting unity and delivering good governance for all residents, irrespective of ethnic or tribal affiliations.
Oladejo emphasized the need for clarity regarding the context of the Foundation’s statements, reaffirming the party’s dedication to serving the interests of all Lagosians.
He stressed the importance of fostering a united front in pursuit of progress and development in Lagos State.
