El-Rufai Breaks Silence  Amidst Speculations Of 2027 Faceoff With Tinubu

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has responded to rumours regarding a potential 2027 faceoff with President Bola Tinubu, dismissing speculation over his recent interactions with officials of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), engaged in discussions with SDP officials, including the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, during recent encounters in Abuja.

Gabam acknowledged El-Rufai’s political acumen and emphasized the importance of bipartisan collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

In response to inquiries about the nature of his engagement with the SDP, El-Rufai’s media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, clarified that the meetings were merely a continuation of longstanding personal relationships and not indicative of any political ambitions against Tinubu.

Adekeye emphasized El-Rufai’s commitment to the APC and highlighted the former governor’s history of fostering relationships across party lines.

He stated, “When people visit each other or mingle across party lines, it is because human relationships exist, distinct from the political or the partisan.”

Addressing the persistent rumors surrounding El-Rufai’s intentions, Adekeye pointed out the tendency of some to misconstrue innocuous interactions, citing a previous instance where El-Rufai’s meetings with former presidents were erroneously interpreted as political maneuvers.

He concluded, “Unfounded speculations about Malam Nasir El-Rufai have become an industry that has delivered tons of lies and clickbaits… That is why it is sometimes necessary to clarify matters lest the unwary be taken in.”
