Gunmen Bomb Police Station In Anambra, No Casualties Reported

The tranquility of Anambra State was shattered as gunmen launched a brazen attack on the Neni divisional police station in Anaocha LGA, according to a statement from the state’s police command.

Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the command, disclosed that the assailants targeted the police station with improvised explosive devices (IEDs), causing damage to a section of the building.

Despite the ferocity of the attack, no casualties were reported, and the police officers on duty valiantly repelled the attackers, forcing them to flee the scene.

Ikenga reassured the public that no officer was abducted, and no firearms were seized during the assault.

He emphasized the resolute response of the police force in thwarting the attackers’ efforts and affirmed that operations to apprehend the perpetrators were still ongoing.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar attack last month, where the Anambra police command successfully recovered AK-47 rifles stolen during a previous assault on the state’s police headquarters in 2021.

Ikenga revealed that one of the rifles was among those stolen from the area command headquarters in Ogidi during an attack in 2023.
