Foundation Brings Relief To Ilagbe Villagers with Industrial Borehole, Generator

Residents of Ilagbe in Odeda, Ogun State, experienced a day of jubilation and gratitude on Friday, March 29th, 2024, as the longstanding dream of access to clean water became a reality, thanks to the generosity of the Olukayode Sotayo Foundation.

Founded by Olukayode Sotayo, the foundation took a significant step towards alleviating the water crisis faced by the village.

Nestled in the Odeda Local Government Area, Ilagbe has grappled with water scarcity, particularly worsening during the dry season when local wells and streams run dry. Moved by the plight of the villagers witnessed during a visit to the community, the foundation resolved to address the issue comprehensively.

Plans were swiftly initiated to install an industrial borehole capable of withstanding low water levels during dry spells, ensuring a consistent supply of clean and potable water year-round.

Understanding the erratic nature of electricity supply in the country, the foundation also equipped the borehole with a standby generator, guaranteeing uninterrupted access to water.

During the commissioning ceremony, the Olu of Odeda, Royal Majesty (Oba) David Ishola Olorunshola, commended the foundation for its noble gesture, urging other community members to follow suit.

He emphasized the transformative impact the borehole would have on the community, easing the arduous task of water procurement that residents endured in the past.

In an emotional moment, Mr. Seun Sotayo, a representative of the foundation, expressed profound satisfaction at the successful completion and delivery of the project.

Reflecting on the genesis of the initiative, he recounted how his brother, Kayode Sotayo, was deeply moved by the struggles of the villagers and felt compelled to intervene.

He explained that initially considering a conventional borehole, the decision to opt for an industrial one was made to tackle seasonal water shortages effectively.

“I am elated that the foundation has fulfilled this promise,” Mr. Seun Sotayo remarked. “Beyond ensuring water availability, this project will significantly improve the lives of the villagers and enhance their economic activities.”

The Olukayode Sotayo Foundation has pledged to extend its philanthropic endeavors to other underserved villages and communities within Odeda, underscoring its commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment.

The joyous atmosphere during the event was palpable, with villagers, young and old, expressing their gratitude by chanting “Kay! Kay!! Kay!!!”—a testament to the profound impact of the foundation’s benevolence on their lives.
