The political landscape in Kaduna State is heating up as Bashir El-Rufai, son of former governor Nasir El-Rufai, launches a scathing attack on Governor Uba Sani, accusing him of evading responsibility and surrounding himself with incompetent aides.

The feud intensified following Governor Sani’s revelation of inheriting a substantial debt burden from the previous administration during a town hall meeting held on Saturday.

Governor Sani candidly disclosed the staggering debt load of $587 million, along with ₦85 billion and 115 contractual obligations from Nasir El-Rufai’s tenure, lamenting its detrimental impact on the state’s finances.

He said that  despite the challenges, Sani reaffirmed his commitment to steering Kaduna towards progress using the available resources judiciously.

The town hall meeting, attended by a diverse range of stakeholders including traditional rulers, religious leaders, politicians, labour unions, and civil society organizations, provided a platform for Governor Sani to present his administration’s priorities and challenges.

However, amidst the discourse on fiscal accountability, Bashir El-Rufai launched a barrage of criticism against Governor Sani and his team, alleging incompetence and deflecting responsibility.

In a series of tweets, Bashir lambasted Governor Sani’s administration, accusing them of incompetence, contract inflation, and currency speculation.

He questioned the governor’s justification for the debt burden, pointing out Sani’s prior involvement in loan approvals as a senator.

The exchange underscores the deepening political divide in Kaduna State, with contrasting narratives emerging on governance and fiscal responsibility.

As accusations fly between the two camps, the political atmosphere in Kaduna becomes increasingly charged, setting the stage for a potentially contentious battle in the upcoming political landscape.
