In a bid to promote tax compliance, the Chief Imam of the Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA), Sheikh Hussain Olanremaju, delivered a compelling lecture on “The Importance of Taxes and Levies – Islamic Perspective.”
Addressing a gathering at the Parastatal Mosque in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday, April 4th, 2024, Sheikh Olanremaju emphasised the obligation for both Muslims and non-Muslims to fulfil their tax responsibilities.
Citing verses from the Quran, he underscored the importance of obedience to authorities and compassion towards others.
Following Sheikh Olanremaju’s lecture, Mr. Anthony Olaleye, Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, reiterated the significance of tax compliance, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
He emphasized the values of compassion, empathy, and unity, central to the Ramadan observance.
Mr. Olaleye elaborated on the theme of the lecture, “The Importance of Payment of Taxes and Levies: Islamic Perspective,” highlighting the Quran’s support for tax collection and its role in facilitating government initiatives, particularly in infrastructure development.
Encouraging the timely payment of taxes and levies, Olaleye urged the people of Ogun State to contribute towards sustaining the state’s progress and development efforts.
He called upon attendees to apply the lessons of Ramadan in their daily lives, fostering unity and brotherhood within the community.
Olaleye extended warm wishes for a blessed Ramadan, filled with peace, happiness, and spiritual fulfilment to all present.
