    Sultan To Nigerian Muslims : Eid-el-Fitr Shifts To Wednesday As Shawwal Moon Not Sighted

    The  Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar,has declared that the 1445AH Ramadan fasting will conclude after 30 days on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, while  Wednesday, April 10th, being declared as the first day of Shawwal and Eid-el-Fitr celebration

    The Sultan in a press statement issued on Monday night, announced that the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH was not sighted on Monday night, April 8th, 2024.

    The statement, released by the Sultanate Council of Sokoto’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, clarified that no reports were received confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on April 8th, which was the 29th day of Ramadan 1445AH.

    Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, emphasized that Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, marks the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1445AH, as accepted by  the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

    Meanwhile, His Eminence has  extended felicitations to the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wished them Allah’s guidance and blessings.

     He urged the Muslim community to continue praying for peace, progress, and development in the country, extending warm wishes for a joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

    The press statement concluded with a prayer for the acceptance of religious deeds by Allah (SWT).

    The   statement read “therefore, Tuesday, 9th April, 2024 is the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1445AH.

    “His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has accepted the report and accordingly declared Wednesday, 10th April, 2024 as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH. (Day of Eid-El-Fitr).

    “His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings. 

    “The Sultan while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress and development of the Country he also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitr.
