The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that a total of 188 terrorists have been neutralized, and 330 suspects were apprehended within the span of one week by the troops during countering insurgency and enhancing security nationwide.
The troops also executed successful rescue missions, freeing 133 kidnapped hostages from captivity.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General Buba said this .
He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to decisively tackle terrorism and restore peace and security across the country.
He emphasized the importance of safeguarding citizens and halting the activities of insurgents.
Additionally, 36 oil thieves were apprehended, preventing the theft of an estimated sum exceeding N600 million.
The military’s achievements extended beyond arrests and rescues, with the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition.
Among the recovered items were 270 assorted weapons and 5,083 assorted rounds of ammunition, including rifles, pistols, grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to him, in the Niger Delta region, troops dismantled illegal refining operations, destroying 51 dugout pits, 24 boats, and 21 storage tanks.
He added that the crackdown on illegal activities resulted in the recovery of over 670,000 liters of stolen crude oil and 90,530 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
Major General Buba affirmed the military’s readiness to continue the fight against terrorism, with numerous terrorist leaders eliminated and ongoing efforts to ensure the security and well-being of citizens.
