In response to claims made by the Borno State Police Command alleging plans for retaliatory attacks on police officers, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, has vehemently denied such intentions.
The organization clarified that reports of plotting reprisal attacks following the recent killings of its members in Kaduna and Zaria are unfounded.
Speaking on behalf of IMN, Prof. I. H. Mshelgaru issued a statement in Abuja, refuting the purported police intelligence message.
He emphasized that there is no intention to seek vengeance for the deaths of seven members in Kaduna and Zaria.
The organization categorically stated that it has never engaged in retaliatory missions against security forces or any other entities, despite enduring persecution and provocation over its more than 40 years of existence.
IMN expressed concern over the dissemination of what it termed as a “devious claim” originating from the police headquarters in Maiduguri, approximately 800 kilometers away from where the killings occurred.
The organization rebuked the notion of possessing an armed wing and condemned the police’s assertion in this regard.
Furthermore, IMN cautioned the public against potential manipulative actions by the police, suggesting that false alarms and provocations could be used to incite incidents and shift blame onto the organization.
Despite the injustices faced, IMN reiterated its commitment to peaceful advocacy for social justice.
The statement concluded with a reminder that the movement will continue to seek justice for its members killed or injured by the police, emphasizing that retribution will come in due time.
IMN urged the authorities to focus on addressing genuine security threats in Borno State rather than perpetuating baseless accusations against the organization.
