The Abia State Police has  announced the apprehension of the suspected killer of a final-year undergraduate student from Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU).

Police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka revealed this development in an official statement released on Thursday.

The victim, Emmanuel Uche, had gone missing in March following cult-related clashes within students’ residential quarters in the area.

A  viral video later surfaced, capturing the brutal murder of the victim by a group of suspected cultists outside the university premises.

The footage depicted Uche’s desperate attempt to escape as he crawled through an untarred road, only to be fatally shot by one of the assailants who caught up with him.

Chinaka, an assistant superintendent of police, highlighted that the alarming video, which circulated on March 11th, prompted swift action from law enforcement authorities in Abia State.

The murder took place in front of a lodge known as Miracle Lodge in Uturu, underscoring the audacity of the crime.

The breakthrough in the case came as a result of diligent police work, with detectives from the Abia State Police Command apprehending the suspect, identified as Emmanuel Victor, in Uturu, Isuikwuato Council Area of the state.

Acting on a tip-off, the police swiftly moved to arrest the suspect around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Chinaka confirmed that Victor was positively identified from the viral video as one of the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the suspect confessed to his involvement upon interrogation and is currently in police custody awaiting formal charges.
